I get in those falafel moods after work and there arent too many places I can get a falafel. I wanted to try a new place out, so made my visit to Athenas Gyros right across from the movie theaters in San Mateo. Restaurant was small but had a lot of character to it. I felt comfortable looking at the pictures on the wall or enjoying the blue painted fluorescent light covers while I waited for my falafel sandwich.

The falafel was somewhat of a disappointment to me. The only redeeming value to the sandwich was the kronos gyros bread. The falafel balls tasted as if they were microwaved. The outside was hard and inside was dry. I could have used these balls for golfing. I thought there were too many other vegetables in the sandwich making it a greek salad. (see picture #5) I could barely taste the hummus or whatever else was in there.

It would be hard for me to make a return visit based on the Falafel sandwich alone. Dont let this review from scaring you in making a visit. The menu has quite a number of other dishes worth trying. If you eat there regularly, let me know what to order and I might give it another try.

What dish did you eat? Falafel Sandwich

What did you think? Hate to be a bitch, but the last thing you want to hear when someone is making you a sandwich, is the Microwave going off and on. That doesn't say fresh to me. Weak very weak.
