El Pollo Supremo picks up the chicken ball where Chicken Unlimited left off. If you were a fan of Chicken Unlimited, sorry to tell you but they closed down a couple of months ago. The good news is the replacement blows away what was previously there.

I'm a huge fan of flamed grilled chicken and El Pollo Supremo reminds me of the savory mexican grilled chicken restaurants that were all over the Los Angeles area in the early 80s before El Pollo L*co was popular. This place brings back good memories.

Looking at the menu can get confusing, if you want to play it safe, go with the 2 piece chicken and 2 sides. They conveniently place the sides on the counter for you to view. I was surprised to see fried plantains and yucca. Im more of a rice fan so i tried 2 types of rice spanish and black bean rice mix

chicken - ahhh...it's absolutely amazing. Chicken is grilled over an open flame and probably marinated overnight? All I know is it was tender, juicy, and mixed with excellent spices. So dammm good, I will return for the chicken anyday. With the 2 piece meal, they gave me breast and 2 wings.

spanish rice - moist and had some flavoring to it. I'm not a big fan of carrots and peas in my rice but the corn was a nice touch. Would I get it again? Most likely.

black bean rice mix - can't say ive had a rice mix like this, but I would order it again. I kinda liked it

tortillas - corn, just your stuff you can get at any mexican market

salsa - lacking heat, tasted like a tomato puree with some onions and cilantro

If you are a big fan of that fast food grilled chicken restaurant that translates to Crazy Chicken, you are going to love El Pollo Supremo. From my visit, El Pollo Supremo scores a touchdown.

RETURN VISIT for Jason! 8/1/2006 - 8 Rating: I have completely lost count of how many times I've been here. I gotta give credit where is due, I love the grilled chicken and finally broke out of habit and ordered something new.

I ordered the grilled red snapper. If you plan on getting it to go, call in the order because it takes awhile to cook up. While waiting for the fish, I was offered a free cup of chowder. Super cool and the chowder was good too.

The grilled red snapper is a huge fillet. It costs $10 and worth every penny. It's not the most gourmet looking fish but for the price and portion size, it's a repeat order. The restaurant is considered fast-food status but I love it. For grilled chicken, if you want something quick and cheap, El Pollo Supremo is a tough act to beat. And now I can add grilled fish to the list.

RETURN VISIT for Jason! 1/22/2007 - 6 Rating: I've been eating here for awhile now and have been enough times to know what's out of the norm. Tonight's grilled snapper was way below average. It tasted like old frozen fish. I couldn't finish it and tossed it away. The sides were just ok too, definitely an off night for them. The grilled chicken is still a favorite of mine but I would be reluctant in ordering the grilled snapper again.

RETURN VISIT for Jason! 9/26/2007 - 8.5 Rating: Foodjunkie sparked my return visit. I went back to the roots and stuck with the chicken. The skin is seriously to die for, not literally cuz it's bad for you but the fllllaaavvoor. They do an awesome marinade combined with a flame grill and you get this crispy/salty skin. I ordered a 3 piece with black beans and rice. I think the rice is a peruvian inspired dish. They've improved their salsa mix by great lengths as it has more heat and less of a tomato puree. The combo comes with steamy corn tortillas and drink for $8.69. It's a great deal and like I said before, much much better than El Pollo Loco.

If it's your first visit, stay with the chicken, you won't be disappointed

1- 2pc chicken w/1 side

The most amazing tasting chicken that has ever entered my mouth. The skin is the best part! and mixing it with some congri(black rice n beans) tortillas n salsa. Its delisoso! p.s. if there is a problem with your food they are happy to exchange it.

Fish and chips

ABSOLUTELY HORRIBLE! I ordered the fish and chips and it came with an overcooked batter so thick and oily that you'd need a sledge hammer and apron to get it off. I left 3/4 of the meal on the plate and threw it away. Terrible!
