Fatt Dog is hidden in the sidestreets in front of the Century 12 Downtown San Mateo. You cant really see it from the street, youll just have to trust me and go park your car. Its quite small inside with several tables and stools. Along the left side of the wall is the condiment bar, good selection and well kept. Fatt Dog is extrememly clean!! A definite plus in my book.

The menu boasts 11 different gourmet dogs for $3. Tonights order was the original Fatt Dog topped with ketchup, spicey mustard, and onions...this dog is nearly 12 inches long...ooohhh (get your minds out of the gutter...tough crowd..hissss...) Anyways, the dog is set in a toasted french roll with meat overhanging the ends like a Dodger dog. Judging by the taste, Im guessing it was a slow cooked dog over a grill. It had a bit of a snap to it and beef had a tasty flavor to it.

I liked Fatt Dog for their reasonable prices, great tasting dog, and a short drive. I will return to try the other gourmet dogs. My only suggestion for Fatt Dog is to serve french fries...cmon!!! whats a hot dog without fries??? Serve the fries and this rating goes up half point.

San Mateo location has moved to San Bruno, check out their website for latest information.

Fatt Dog is a nice clean little hot dog joint. You can’t see off the street. It’s tucked awy down an nice alley on the way to the downtown San Mateo movie theater. I first thing I saw in the menu was Bratwurst. I grill this every once in a while on my grill at home so I was eager to compare. After I got my average sized brat I headed to the condiment bar. Big selection here( sauerkraut, onions, relish, jalapeño peepers, 2 kinds of hot mustards, ketchup , and BBQ sauce). I went with spicy brown mustard and sauerkraut. Taking the first bit I realized it was done perfect, just like at home. I devoured it in no time. I’m not a big eater so this one filled me up. This place is also really clean, lots of stainless steel around the place. Also one of the best things is only $3 a dog. Go Fatt Dog. 8 stars
