Kaz Teriyaki Grill is a small corner restaurant in San Mateo. The japanese food is all takeout but you can eat outside on the benches. Inside the restaurant is one grill with tons of chicken laying on top of them. Lunch can be busy at times but if you order their specialty chicken teriyaki bowl, you can walk out with your order in minutes. Other orders like veggie bowls should be ordered by phone as they take a bit longer to cook.

I frequently order the chicken teriyaki rice bowl with skin removed from the chicken. The skin is a bit fatty. Sauce isn't too sweet but they occasionally dowse teriyaki sauce on it. I ask for 1/2 sauce sometimes. The chicken has a tasty charred flavor since its cooked over an open flame.

I love this place and usually eat Kaz's about once every 2 weeks. Prices are excellent with a chicken bowl setting you back a mere $5. For an extra 1-2 bucks, you can add salad and miso soup. If you want something cheap, appreciate good food with fast service...Kaz is your place.

RETURN VISIT for Jason! 9/23/2004 - 9 Rating: Ive been long overdue for Kaz...I been trying so many different places, Ive neglected my original favorites. How was it? Just as good as the 1st..its still awesome. I got the beef teriyaki bowl tonight and now sitting here about ready to pass out...Im so full. One note, the beef looks like a rib eye cut so dont be surprised if you see little chunks of fat.

I think the specialty is the chicken here as they always have LOADS of it stacked by the grill. And chicken orders are filled A LOT faster than beef or egg. I ordered vegetarian which consists of egg and vegetables over rice. You're probably wondering - how good can that be? Well let me tell you, it rocks! The egg is not like a scrambled egg- just look at the picture above. Mmmm.

And it definitely fills you up for not a lot of money. Highly recommended!

Kaz Teriyaki Grill is a favorite of mine to get awesome quick Chicken Teriyaki to go. This place is really small, only take out orders. Their hours are strange they seem to close up when they run out of chicken!

Any way you cant go wrong with there basic Chicken Teriyaki bowl. You get a ton of rice and a heap of chicken for only $4.50. You cant bet that, and the chicken is always grilled fresh. The rice is white short gain sticky rice, yummy. The only thing that you need to be aware of here is if you dont say no skin then it will be left on. Id recommend getting no skin.

This place rocks! 9 stars.

This is one of my favorite take out places. I came here with Jason the first time and we ate the bento box right outside of the store on the sidewalk. I ordered the grilled fish bento, the fish was excellently done, salad was fresh and the house dressing was also good. I would say the food is more than an oridinary person can finish (I was about to explod after I finish the whole thing) and for $6, you cant go wrong with it.

I wish its not that far away from my house, I would have eaten there at least 3 times a week easily if its closer to where I live. Next item to try - chicken donburi.

This is the perfect place to go if you want something to grab and go, but you don't want a burger, pizza, taco, or a sandwich. I LOVE the Curry Katsu and Donburi dishes. Everything's seasoned and flavored so well, priced reasonably, and fast!

Jason ate...

katsudon

wasn't too impressed with batter on pork cutlet, way too peppery and salty. I'll stick to my favorites, the beef or chicken teriyaki. I normally ask for light sauce and skinless chicken. Kaz still rates SOLID 9.
