Tonight was a Sopranos night and in keeping in the spirit of Italiano, we decided to get Pizza My Heart. There are several locations in the Bay Area with a surfing theme to each restaurant. The walls are covered with old surfing photos and long boards.

Pizza My Heart serves thin New York style pizza and slices. I rated it with one $ since you can grab a slice and salad for less than $5. If you order a whole pizza, prices range from $12-25.

We ordered "The Lane"; pesto, sausage, and roma tomatoes. The pizza was not an entirely pesto as there was tomatoe paste mixed in...quite odd? Roma tomatoes were fresh and crust was tasty. Not that greasy and the crust could have been a little bit more firm but I still enjoyed eating every slice. "The Lane" was very good but I think their best pizza is still the pepperoni. If you see Pizza My Heart, stop by, grab a slice, and admire the cool surfing pictures.

Pizza My Heart get a high rating in my book 8.5 . Slices of pizza are always read for the taking. Each slice is re-warmed up again in the oven before they serve it to you. My favorite is the Pesto, although I’m also partial to the Maui (pineapple Canadian beacon). The place has a nice atmosphere, lots of old surf pictures on the walls. Also this is a nice place to take the kids. One last thing is I love the punch cards, after 3 slices you get a free one!

So, here's the thing with Pizza My Heart. I love the place, but the pizza is just average. However, after dancing or drinking away a late night in Palo Alto, there is no better place to find yourself than at Pizza My Heart.

This 'by the slice' pizza joint is one of the few places open late in downtown Palo Alto. There is always ample seating, free drink refills, and friendly staff. There is usually a good selection of pizzas out and the slices are big. I've eaten there a lot, but wanted a fresh experience to write my review against, and tonight I got that.

I had one slice of mushroom, and one slice of pepperoni and mushroom. The crust is very thin. It's too thin, in my opinion. I'm not an East Coast girl (is it east coast that has the super thin crusted pizza??) and I like some dough in my pizza crust. However, the toppings are very fresh and plentiful. The sauce is a bit strong for my taste, but I am practiced at removing all unwanted pizza sauce and that doesn't hinder my eating experience. Overall, I'd rate the pizza at a solid 7.

So, you're probably thinking, Well, Julie. If the pizza is only average, why did you give it an 8? It gets an 8 because it is more than just pizza. I've had so many great times at this place. My friends and I almost always get pizza after going out in Palo Alto and we love going to Pizza My Heart. If I were on University for lunch, I probably wouldn't pick this particular pizza joint. But, for a late night snack, it can't be beat.

The word that came to mind as I was eating this latest slice was 'pedestrian.' It's a completely uninspired and careless attempt at pizza, thrown together with very little effort to make quick money off high-schoolers, relying only on pizza's natural goodness to save it. The olives were dry, the cheese was barely melted, the crust and sauce both as bland as possible. It is convenient, though, and is open late, as every food-serving place should be required to be by law decreed by The Supreme Brandon. If you're starving to death and need a quick meal, it'll do, but I can't recommend it as anything special.
