Taqueria La Cumbre is a serious contender for one of the best burritos in San Mateo. Tonights order was a regular carnitas burrito. While waiting for my burrito, I walked over to the salsa bar and had to pass. Something didnt look right...I'll keep it at that.

Keeping an open mind, I still wanted to try my burrito. With a short wait, they called my number and I proceeded with my taste test. Wow...I think Im in love with their tortillas. I havent been able to find tortillas that have residue flour on them since Oxnard. Refried beans melted in my mouth and rice was extremely moist. Hot salsa was non-existent, did they put any? And finally the key ingrediant...the carnitas. Im the type of person who likes their carnitas moist on the inside and crunchy on the outside. Taqueria La Cumbre carnitas is tender but not crunchy. The portion was a good size as I could not finish the entire burrito. I was filled and satisfied.

I will return to try their Carne Asada, Pollo Asado, and hopefully the salsa...who knows I might have to bump this score into the 9 range. Taqueria La Cumbre is good and on the verge of being excellent.

RETURN VISIT for Jason! 12/12/2004 - 8.5 Rating: Had dinner here tonight...very impressive. I got the Pollo Asada burrito, black beans, guac, rice, and hot salsa. This is my best visit yet! The chicken is grilled over an open flame and marinaded with a sweet mixture. Tortilla was soft, black beans were whole, salsa had a kick to it, rice was ok, and the chicken is definitely the best part of the burrito. Excellent job on the meal tonight!

Ahh Taqueria La Cumbre my favorite place to get a grilled BBQ chicken taco. I should probably order another item off the menu but I can’t pass up that taco. The thing is made up of 2 corn tortillas steam pressed with white cheese on top, then loaded with fresh BBQ chicken right off the grill. You choose black or pinto beans and of course mild or hot salsa. Also the rice is very moist and tasty. I usually only order one because the size of the thing, but it was 8:00pm and I was starving, so I took 2! I’m always thinking that they can’t make them any better but some how they did, or maybe it was my hunger that clouded my taste buds. None the less I thoroughly enjoyed them. I highly recommend this little place. 9.0 rating trust me on this one!
