We celebrated Terry's birthday lunch at Jakes of Saratoga. We even had old co-workers make an appearance for this jatbar outting. Eddie was responsible for placing the orders, so we put down a small 4 cheese pizza and 1 large pepperoni sausage. There definitely was a breakdown in communication between Eddie and Terry because when we arrived, he had ordered a total of 5 PIZZAS!!! We wanted the 4 cheese pizza and not 4 small cheese pizzas. omg..it was hilarious..there was almost a pizza for each person there. What the hell was Eddie thinking? Anyways, he bought lunch so I shouldnt be complaining.

So how was the pizza?

Sauce - Tangy and full of herbs, I liked it a lot but not enough on there.

Cheese - cheddar and mozzeralla, kind of on the light side. Each slice of the pepperoni sausage did not yield that stringy glob that I love.

Toppings - Tons of pepperoni...they easily get a 9 for the portion size and 8 for the taste. They dont skimp out with the meat toppings.

Crust - I have mixed feelings on this. I liked it but would have enjoyed it more if the crust was half the thickness. It felt too doughy and portions of the pizza were uncooked.

I think we hit Jakes of Saratoga on an off day. There pizza is very good but had me wishing there was more sauce and cheese with every bite. If the pizza is not the main draw, I hear there burgers and sandwiches are worth trying.

Went here to meet up with some friends and I found Jakes to be a great place to meet up with friends. Nice warm pizza place with bar accomodations. Reminded me a lot of a brighter Boardwalk of Los Altos.

I had to try the cheese pizza as that is my benchmark for pizza reviews. I found the pizza here to be just average. The sauce actually was the highlight as it tasted like out-of-the-jar Ragu. Quite tasty. The cheese was on fairly heavy but not much excitement to the flavor. It was average. The crust was thick and for thsoe that like crust they will be pleased. I found it to be a bit much. It was just a lot of bread for my tastes. It was a bit chewy, a bit crunchy. If you are into the thicker crust pizza, I can see you liking Jakes pizza. There was not a lot of grease, either.

In my opinion, if I am in the mood for this type of pizza I would much prefer Mountain Mikes. I do, however, plan to return to the Sunnyvale location soon and try some of their specialty pizzas. Stay tuned.

RETURN VISIT for Terry! 2/21/2005 - 7 Rating: I feel I must update this review. I tried the other Jakes location in Sunnyvale and found it to be a bit more enticing a location. I also ordered the Veggie Combination pizza and that was a bit more flavorful as well. There were a lot of people in my group that went with the Gilroy pizza and they all enjoyed that one immensely (though it has meat so I didn't sample it). So if you are set on going to Jakes, stick with their custom creations.

Jakes of Saratoga

This is my favorite pizza shop. Actually I tried pizza some place in Yosemite that was better but I have yet to find a place better than Jake's in the bay area. Jake's pack on the flavor, spices, and toppings. Their pizza comes out bubbling with cheese, and the crust is crispy to my liking. The pizza here packs a punch, but also knocks out my wallet. I usually order pizza here during football season as my buddies and I get together on Sunday to watch games on their big screen TV while munching down on their pizza and appetizers. There's usually no leftovers, by that I mean food and money.

I usually order some combination style pizza and a cheaper pepperoni with mushrooms version. The bill typically comes out to close to 50 after some appetizers, and that's not even including drinks.

There are plenty of parking at jakes and this is one of the only restaurants in Saratoga and Cupertino area that opens LATE! This place actually saved me from starving once. Last month I went to a wedding with a few friends and we all ended up coming to Jake's around 12am, and they were kind enough to bake us a pizza to eat.

Bottom Line: Great food/pizza, friendly management, good sports hangout, but only one big screen TV, put the hurt on your wallet, opens LATE.

Jakes Delux and Chili

This delux hamburger (which comes with a pickle spear)and chili are great. Have been going to Jakes of Saratoga for 21 years and have to say their atmosphere is most inviting.

small combo pizza

Lots of pizza for $14; very tasty. The pitcher of Marzen at $9.50 was another good buy.

I give this place an 8.5 Nice crispy med-thick crust, good sauce and nice amount of toppings & the cheese tastes fresh compared to Roundtable. One of my fav pizza places for the past 12 years.
