Luprettas Delicatessen the rematch, about a month or two ago I was looking for Luprettas Deli in San Jose to only find out they had moved shop to Saratoga...grrrrrrr. I wont hold a grudge though, the Saratoga location has more parking and in a nicer atmosphere. The area of Saratoga is upperscale and makes me wonder if these people strolling the sidewalks actually have jobs? What a life.....hang out, do some shopping, go eat, lounge at home, take a dip in the pool, take a nap. I dont know where Im going with this so if there are any ..cough...ladies to share the wealth...cough..sugar mama....drop me a note :)

Oh yeah, we came here for sandwiches since it was an Italian Deli and we were on lunch break. Its time to order sandwiches. With so many choices on the wall, I was torn between the italian combo and the meatball sandwich. I went with the latter and already planning on making a return visit since I enjoyed my sandwich.

bread - soft bread, about a foot long, lightly toasted, tasted fresh to me.

meatballs - I dont recall them being shaped like balls but more like mini-patties. great stuff and much better than what you get at Togos or Subway. The marinara sauce was more of a brown glaze and not too acidic. Dont forget to order provalone cheese, whats a meatball sandwich without the cheeeeeese.

They had a couple of tables outside to do some people watching and on the inside you can sit comfortably in the spacious dining area. The interior of the restaurant is spotless, you can literally eat off the floor. Bonus points for cleanliness and menu selection for sandwiches. Im coming back to Luprettas Delicatessen as I want to try the sliced pizza and italian combo. You heard it here on jatbar, Jason likes the sandwiches at Luprettas Delicatessen.

It was a bit of drive from work so when we arrived I was quite hungry. Parking wasn't too bad, some on the street, and some on the lots behind the buildings. We enter the clean restaurant and the place is fairly empty for a peak lunch hour. The thing to order here is the raviolis but I just couldn't bring myself. Whenever I order them anywhere I am supplied with like 5-10 pieces and I find myself hungry afterwards.

I went with a cheese sandwich. It arrived quickly and for $4.60 I was hoping for a bit more but overall it was ok. The bread was the highlight. I usually don't like sesames on top, but on this bread it was pretty tasty. The cheese was a bit higher quality but they didn't give me enough. The other ingredients were decent, but nothing mind blowing. I wasn't completely full afterwards and was thankful I ordered the macaroni salad. It tasted like any other storebought type - though I'm sure it was higher quality. I wouldn't order that again. If I was in the area, I would probably go with the raviolis next time as the sandwich was decent but not enough to make me coming back for it. I have not given up up Luprettas. I was impressed with the cleanliness and variety on the menu.

Meatball Sandwich

Out of this world!! Reminds me of a great East coast grinder. The bread is fresh.. meatballs are tasty and just enough cheese.

SOUP!

We love the soup at Lupretta's, especially the minestrone with parmesan. The chicken noodle is also excellent. The meat sauce is also very good on the homemade raviolis or any pasta.
