Bamboo Garden was just one of those random jatbar visits. We had nothing planned and had no knowledge of this chinese restaurant beforehand. Dim sum was being served and at $1.99 a serving, it was a good deal.

The restaurant was a little over half full with only 2-3 dim sum carts. I would have liked more carts circling us with a broader selection of items. If you look at the pictures above, you'll notice we stick to the regular items and a lot of shrimp anything. The dim sum was served hot and tasty enough to compete with the other chinese restaurants in the area. The green beans was a pleasant surprise to me. I wasnt expecting it to be as good as it was. It was heavy on the oil but Im willing to overlook.

Along with the dim sum I ordered a half crispy chicken...damm was that tasty. Sprinkled with garlic and peanuts, the skin was extra crispy and talking to Terry, Im convinced Chicken Skin chips would SELL. Ok, Im dreaming but the chicken still tasted super good. Under that table mat was a menu with the Crispy Chicken prices but the waiter informed me they dont offer that special anymore. From $5.99 for a half to $9, what a drag, kinda a tease, that waiter should remove those advertised specials. Would I order it again.....yes without a doubt, I <3 crispy chicken.

I have mixed feelings about Bamboo Garden. The dim sum prices were cheap but lacking in variety. Their Crispy Chicken was advertised for a couple of dollars cheaper but the lunch special wasnt valid anymore. They charged $1.60 for Tea and I thought I was having a bargain lunch. I would be willing to try their dim sum again but Im completely sold on their crispy chicken. If they had a bigger selection of dim sum they had posted in their windows and remove the ridiculous tea tax, I would rate this an 8.

Heres some good advice if youre visiting downtown Sunnyvale during the lunch rush, dont bother circling around looking for parking, just park in the mall parking lot. You'll save a lot of time.

Ah, the wonderfully rundown Town and Country center. This was a nice trek on a fairly nice day so it felt nice walking around and looking for a place to eat. We settled on Bamboo Garden. No wishlist request, just random drop-in.

The place was not that packed at all. The interior looked kind of old but thats ok. Tells me the place was been around awhile. Near the entrance they have a notice about some kind of Elvis impersonator that makes appearances here. Might be something to look into. I'll bet thats really interesting to be chowing down on some dim sum and hearing some cool tunes.

Anyway, what got me excited about this place was the $1.99 dim sum. Great deal. We sat down and the cart quickly came by. The selection was rather minimal to say the least. In total I found maybe 3 or 4 things that I enjoyed. The crab and shrimp items I tried were all by-the-numbers and on the small side. Which isn't bad for $1.99 I guess, but it was just not that inspiring. This is a great location to go if you are in the mood for a standard lunch. Not exactly a special event restaurant if you get my drift.

The bill for my portion of the food came out to about $8 and I was still a little hungry. Unless I wanted to pound down another 4-8 shrimp dumplings which didn't overwhelm me in the first place, I guess that was fine by me. The price wasn't out of hand, the food selection was minimal, and the water refill wasn't quite up the task. I would return if someone wanted to go here, but I won't go out of my way.
