Thanks to Imprezzy for submitting Cam Hung to the jatbar wish list.

We arrived during the lunch rush and every seat was taken. Terry and I ordered 4 sandwiches, 2 sandwiches too many. We ate 1 there and took the other to go. We didn't know the sandwiches were going to be big. Like most Vietnamese sandwiches, they're normally served on a french wide baguette and topped with daikons, carrots, cilantro, onions, jalapenos, and a mayo-sauce.

Cam Hung also offers pork buns, spring rolls, and pho. Browsing other tables, a popular combo is 1 sandwich and spring roll. Sandwiches start at $1.75 up to $2.50. I went with the bbq pork and grilled chicken. I don't think I've ever had a generous amount of meat in any bahn mi so I'm beginning to think that's the way they're built. The bread is baked to a crunchy shell and with every bite, flakes of bread will fall off onto your shirt and land everywhere. I like the bread a lot and the veggies were fresh. Occasionally in a bite you would introduce your mouth to a blistering hot jalapeno. fun stuff.

Cam Hung works quite well for reasons;

- on the way to Fry's Electronics
- frickin CHEAP
- complete hole in the wall
- sandwiches are larger than the norm
- mom & pop shop

If you like Lee's Sandwiches, you'll enjoy the more traditional vietnamese sandwiches at Cam Hung. Parking fills up quick during lunch but there's additional parking near the liquor store.

Wow. This place looked like a boring beat down building, and it smelled really bad outside for some reason. I was thankful, though, because I knew the food would be cheap, and it wouldn't fill me up, and I would be able to review another place during lunch.

We get there and the place is packed. Unless you arrive early you will have a hard time finding a table here, so plan on taking back to the car or office. Preferably the office, as it can be messy (more on this later)

Being used to my normal Vietnamese sandwiches, I figured I should order 2 just be safe as they are cheap and small. I went with the tofu sandwich and the vegetable sandwich. I also picked up the tab on Jasons 2 sandwiches. Look at the picture above. Thats 4 sandwiches and the tab came in under $9. Damn cheap.

The sandwiches took a little while to make since they were busy. When we got them, I was blown away. These things are quite substantial. These aren't your ridiculously small Lees sandwiches, these things WILL fill you up. If you are a normal human, just order 1 at $2.50 and you will be set. If you are like me, you should order 2, and bring one back to the office to finish off in another couple hours.

We got lucky when a table opened up, and I sat down and attacked my tofu sandwich. The bread is probably the biggest downside here for me. It scratched the hell out of the top of my mouth. The next day I was still feeling sore. The bread was tasty enough just too crunchy for me. Also the bread is very crumbly so eating in your car is probably a bad idea as you will get crumbs everywhere. The rest of the ingredients though were top notch. If you like spicy, then you will like how they prepare your sandwich. Both of my sandwiches were very hot. The tofu was the solid kind, so wasn't messy at all. Very tasty.

The veggie one, consumed later, was equally spicy and was everything that was in my tofu sandwich except for the tofu. I enjoyed it equally. I look forward to returning here, despite the rough bread experience. Maybe it was a fluke. But the pain was worth the flavor and the good deal.

bbq chicken sandwich (5)

Slightly dry. Not as good as what I've had down in Westminster, but tasty and more than a good enough value to make it a worthwhile option when in Sunnyvale.

BBQ Chicken Bahn Mi Sandwich

Delicious and filling for $2.75. I see many return visits to Cam Hung. I'd also characterize the bread as crispy, not crunchy, and not hard at all. Eat slowly and you'll avoid oral lesions.

BBQ Chicken Sandwich

Definitely a Value sub. For $2.50 you get a large sub with lots of meat and veggies. The negatives - Bread was super crunchy and hard. Sub was very dry. Should add in extra mayo or some sort of sauce to make it moist. OVerall good for the
