Nerds...Nerds...and more nerds. Its the place you love to hate but you cant get enough of. If you havent had the honor of visiting Frys Electronics, think of it as the Costco of new/used/open/damaged electronics. They have some of the best prices but also attracts a lot of returned products. Its a nerd paradise.
It was my idea to drag Terry and grab a sandwich at el neato cafe. He was already planning on buying his movie Star Wars/Office Space so it wasnt a hard sale. You should have seen the droves of males walking over to the dvd section. I did the same thing last week for some movie, I would have gotten a sandwich last week but there was a line. Seriously...a fricken line at Frys to get a sandwich? Is it that good?
I wanted the club sandwich but a mistake in the order led me to a tasty hot pastrami sandwich.
bread - wheat, its the stuff you get in bulk if you own a sandwich shop, sliced bread, thicker than what you get in the markets, toasted, good stuff
toppings - thick tomato, cheddar cheese, mayo, mustard, romaine lettuce. Yes, you read that right, they arent even using regular lettuce. quality stuff.
meat - pastrami, heated. They might microwave it but the meat is great stuff. Its not cut thick, some fat on it and juicy. The only thing missing was the heavy pepper on the edges. Its not Katz deli, Bagel Deli, or Original Joes but for convenience and price, Frys Electronics deli meat should be commended.
For a cafe thats surrounded by electronics this place is pretty damm good. I swear it beats a lot of the franchise sandwich shops and Im not kidding. There service could use a little improvement, they were understaffed and our wait for our sandwiches were long. There are 2 lines, if you want to order a sandwich faster, stand in the left one, the right is for coffees.
Check out the pics, they dont lie, you can order salads, pastries, coffee, ice cream, just about everything you find in a sandwich shop. Frys Electronics serves good sandwiches, Im putting my reputation on the line but their pastrami is easily a return visit. And if Im wrong, its no loss to you, just go pick up a dvd thats on sale, walk to the cashier, snag a candy bar in the aisle of impulse purchases, and causally walk out without showing your reciept :)

When Jason suggested we goto lunch at Frys, I was VERY skeptical. I couldn't imagine having decent food at Frys. I now stand corrected.
The service was typical Frys - the definite low point of the experience. The food, however, made up for it. The quality was not what I was expecting. It was definitely deli quality. And they gave you a lot of it. I had the tuna salad sandwich and it was among the best I've had.
Now, tonight, a few days later, my son and I were hungry and we had to make a Frys run (in Fremont) so I was more brave to actually eat there in Frys. I went with the Tuna Melt this time. Which is the same but included cheese. It was equally good at Frys.
Prices were pretty good, especially compared to how much food you get. I was full from both of my meals and only spent about $5. Way to go Frys.

Frys Electronics Deli is a nice oasis in the midst of appliances, DVDs and every electronic gadget a geek could want. I walked in at 1:40 pm and was really impressed with the feel of the place…nice carpeting, dark wood tables and chairs, warm lighting and attractive displays. The entire café is surrounded by glass and is quiet inside. Im in Frys right? I could see myself relaxed at a table, reading, sipping a mocha.
I had to take my order to go today however, no time to sit and enjoy the scene. Its a good tip that Jason shared – the line to the right is for coffee/espresso/smoothies and the line to the left is for sandwiches/soup. I walked right up and a nice lady helped complete a sandwich order slip. I like that they do this, as it helps to ensure I get exactly what I want on my sandwich. Do click on “menu” here on Jatbar to see the form. I ordered the Roast Beef and Cheese Sandwich combo which includes sandwich, Dirty (Kettle) Potato Chips and a 20 ounce fountain soda. I also picked up a Turkey and Swiss for a colleague.
I waited 3-4 minutes and my sandwiched were ready. They were packed in nice clear boxes with pickle spears and pepperoncini on the side. At first glance these looked to be pretty hearty and the bread looked like stuff you get at Le Boulanger.
I get back to my desk and dig in…
Bread: Excellent! I love wheat bread and this was moist, fresh and flavorful. I think the crust was better than Le Bou as it was tenderer. Le Bous can be a bit tough.
Meat: Generous cuts of very tender, juicy roast beef.… melt in your mouth - I barely had to chew. They use very good quality meats here, Im happy to report.
Cheese: Thickly cut provolone, also fresh tasting. At least 2 large slices on my sandwich as every bit had cheese.
Produce: Now heres where I was surprised, Frys deli used red leaf lettuce which is a welcomed change. Red leaf isnt commonly used. I watched the gal make my sandwiches and this is the real stuff, right from a head of lettuce. Red Leaf lettuce is crisp and has a great flavor. I am not a tomato fan but from the looks of my colleagues sandwich, she got 2 thick ripe red tomato slices. Red Onions was thin and crisp… Everything produce wise was excellent. Even the dill pickle spears tasted fresh and snapped at each bite.
Condiments: I am thankful they dont overwhelm their sandwiches with loads of mayo and mustard. They put on just the perfect amount for my liking.
Value: A single sandwich was $5.29 but the quality and size really do make this a good value. Add $1.70 more ($6.99 total) and you get a big bag of Dirty (Kettle) Chips and a large 20 ounce soda. I think they really are on par with Le Boulanger quality, with a bit better bread and more meat portions.
Overall, for a deli – 8.5/10. Now, I wouldnt go out of my way to visit Frys Deli. Not because I have any complaints. Just for me, all that merchandise is just too tempting! I would consider this my priority deli stop if I worked super close by. Fantastic quality sandwiches in a lovely café setting. If you need a gadget, visit Frys and definitely give the café a visit. You wont be disappointed.
Tip: you can buy Frys merchandise at the café register, but it must be under $20. Just FYI…
