Fujii Bakery is located next to Hanamaru so you can do the back to back lunch visit. I thought it was going to be a japanese bakery after looking closely, its not named after Mount Fuji. It looked more european, possibly danish judging from their pasty selection.

I decided to get a mix of cookies. The cookies werent overly sweet and neither were they flowing with grease. My favorite was the raspberry jam cookies but the real winner were the macaroons. Wow...slightly chilled and moist. These are the best I have had and would return for these sweet little morsels.

One other note I should mention was the lady behind the counter was very nice to us. She even placed the cookies nicely in the box so they would look presentable. Im not sure how their cakes are but if they are anything like their cookies, Im positive you wont be disappointed.

We just finished up at Hanamaru and wanted a little dessert to finish off the meal. We stopped by Fujii. I saw the Macaroons on the counter. $4 for 12. Hard to resist that.

Wow, these are probably the best macaroons I have ever had. Chilled, close to frozen, not hard at all. VERY soft. They melted in the mouth. I am still dreaming of them. If you are a fan of coconut, you will not go wrong with Fujii's Macaroons.

My friend and I sat in the living room watching a Food Network program and she saw some segment profiling a cake baker. She started to crave for some chocolate cake so we decide to hit up a bakery close by her house and decided on Fujii Bakery.

We arrive around 4pm and they still had a few selections left over. There are plenty of cookies, but nothing appealed to me. I over heard a customer ask about the amount of sugar used in the baked goods and the reply was “The owner of this bakery is Japanese and he uses very little sugar in his baked goods.”

I decide on a slice of custard cake for 2.75 and a cream puff for 1.75. The cashier places my items in a small box, where as my friend ordered a slice of chocolate cake and the cashier put her cake in a paper bag.

We get back and start eating our deserts. The custard cake was very light and not overly sweet. The cream puff had a bit too much cream for me. The cream had a slight after taste. I would stick to the cakes if I ever go back. My friend seemed to enjoy her chocolate cake but she commented that it was on the lighter side rather than super thick chocolate side.

The photos above looked like the place was stacked with pastries and cakes, but when we got there the items within the counter was practically empty.

I ordered bento boxes to go from Hanamaru 2 door down and had a few minutes to wait.... A great opportunity to check out Fuji Bakery.

I walk in and a Japanese lady is asking the owner how to say 'Thank you very much for your time' in Japanese. I knew half the phrase, from Aikido... Nice to know the owner is so accommodating and friendly. Domo origato goy-ishta-mas.. something along those lines.

The lady behind the counter waited on me. I went with a mixed dozen cookies (very similar to Jason's box) and a dozen macaroons (half choc half plain)... At $4.50 per dozen this was a very reasonable price!

The cookies looked delicious and I am going to nibble on them tonight. I picked up some thumbprints (jam filled shortbreads), sliced almond cookies (rare to see!), sugar rings and a few others.

BUT, here's the deal...I can definitely say the macaroons were awesome!! I ate one choc and one plain on the way back to work and they were perfect. Chewy, just lightly sweetened, fresh and the perfect size... 5 bites each. The chocolate ones won me over... just enough cocoa in these to satisfy the craving, yet not too sweet.

I'll be back. It's nice to have a bakery that doesn't go sugar crazy and makes some delicious cookies. And Macaroons! They can be hard to come by!
