I remember this place when it was Sierra Sam's Pizza about 1 1/2 years ago. It was taken over by H. Butler's BBQ. BBQ items are the things to get with pizza making a return visit to the menu. They offer plenty of lunch sandwiches under the $7 range but if you want the combo plates, bring $15-20.

I try my best to determine what the food should taste like and when it comes to this style of bbq, I am severely inexperienced. I had to reference my bbq expert and after describing the flavors and showing the pictures, he tells me it's probably eastern style bbq, particularly North Carolina. Any bbq experts out there to confirm?

Pork ribs with a vinegary and peppery taste. There wasn't any bbq sauce on the ribs and noticed coats of dry rub. Meat was tender enough to pry from the bone and you can kinda see in the pictures the red ring around the meat to indicate a smoking of sorts. Pork ribs were large and with an additional rib, it would have been complete overload. It wasn't exactly a taste that I'm accustomed to as I prefer more a sweet and/or mustardy/spicy flavor. It wasn't awful, just different.

Brisket on the other hand was odd. Meat was extremely watery and lacking the normal fat flavor I love so much. I can't put my finger on it, and I hate to pull out the B word, but it tasted like boiled meat with a late grilling over fire. Now to purists, this is an indeed evil statement and isn't meant to be mean, just an observation. I did not like the brisket.

The sides were ok but the Mac N Cheese was outstanding. I made a box of mac n cheese a month ago (I was starving and it was 2AM, I was desperate) and nothing like H. Butler's stuff. Real cheese, real noodles, their macs are dope. Great stuff and I'd eat it again. Their beans were also to my liking.

I understand bbq is more pricey than regular lunches and having paid $14.95 for my combo, I thought it was $3 too much. I'd be reluctant to making a return visit as the style of bbq didn't leave a lasting impression.

There have been numerous requests for this restaurant with opinions being a 50/50 split. Half the people enjoyed while others disagreed what bbq is. I went with 3 other people, here's what they said

Wes - Thought the food was ok, a little on the expensive side, kinda on the fence for a return visit. Loved his Tri-Tip but not so hot on the brisket. His favorite bbq restaurant is Sam's BBQ.

Chris - Completely bitched through the entire meal, I wanted to slap him with a pork rib. He went with hot links and brisket and for a person who hated his entire meal, he ate the entire plate. Yeah, that's right, he ate it all and complained how expensive it was. His favorite bbq joints include Sam's BBQ and Uncle Franks.

Sean - Loved his Brisket sandwich. Out of the 4 of us, he probably eats the most bbq. He bbq's at home, makes the special marinades, pure meat eater, etc. Maybe his score should weigh the most? Favorite BBQ place is Sam's but did not like Uncle Franks.

I wasn't into H. Butler's BBQ but am curious about the deep fried catfish which wouldn't rule out another return visit. In the end though, with prices approaching the $17 range, I'd give H. Butler's BBQ a 6.5.

No way shape or form eastern NC style BBQ

Its some gross mutant hybrid of several regions, and not very good. Eastern NC BBQ is finely chopped whole-hog-pork with a hint of vinegar sauce used to keep the meat moist. Usually served with cole slaw and hush puppies. There is no Brisket in E.NC
