Thanks to Mike and Bridget for submitting Italian restaurant Pezzellas Villa Napoli. For the last 4 years or so, we've driven by this restaurant on El Camino Real wondered about it. We were always scared off by the Seafood Steaks on the sign outside. Anything with those words normally hits the $15-20 range. Terry was off doing some errands so I recruited my co-worker Chris.

We arrived around noon and to our surprise, the bar was going off. There were more people in the bar than in the restaurant. People were eating and drinking having a good old time. I don't even think there were available seats so we sat in the main dining room.

The atmosphere is one of kind and reminds me of an Italian Villa. Definitely much nicer than most of our regular jatbar spots yet the lunch prices were reasonable. There were plenty of options from $7 - $12. I ordered the Penne with Carmine Sauce while Chris went with Chicken Parmigiana and Spaghetti. A short time later, our waiter dropped off tasty bread, butter and grated parmesan (image 6). The bread with the various grains was my favorite.

15 minutes passed before our meals were delivered. The portions were more than adequate for our large appetites. The Chicken Parmigiana and spaghetti (picture 7) had our mouths dropping as the portions could have been shared. Under the glob of cheese sat 2 breaded chicken breasts. I tried a tiny piece and was impressed with wasn't a heavily breaded chicken but more a lightly battered juicy chicken. Italian sauce wasn't sweet and had a savory wine touch. I wouldn't mind ordering it but my dish was better.

The Penne with Carmine Sauce consists of Penne pasta, spicy tomatoes,
basil and garlic sauce. Sounds like simple ingredients yet the dish was able to produce a full bodied flavor. Spiciness was way above the average on the heat scale. I think they used red pepper flakes and what's interesting was the triple combo of basil/tomatoes/garlic would hit your taste buds first followed by the heat. Just enough time to savor the tartness of the tomatoes and smooth roll of basil with a hint of the aromatic spice. Another bonus was the temperature (hot) it was served out and not the camping in an oven effect. We're talking straight from the stove to your plate directly to you table type of feeling. I loved this dish thoroughly and wouldn't have any doubts of ordering it again.

Service was attentive with no problems on getting refills of water and inquiring about our meals. Pezzellas Villa Napoli is a classy place and can't wait to try more dishes. The lunch prices are a bargain considering you get large portions and great tasting food.

The Sole Special

ALWAYS ask if they have the Sole Special. It's one of their best dishes. BTW, I'm the Mike who sent the Wish List request, so I'm very happy that you enjoyed it. It really is an excellent restaurant.
