If you love hot dogs you will love the Valley. There are at least 10 hot dog joints on that street or right off of it. All of them serving a 8+ rated chili dog. The Wienery is location on Ventura Blvd about a block away from De Soto. They have their own parking lot but if the lot is full, you are going to have to back out of the lot back onto the busy Ventura Blvd (Pain in the ass). My advice, if you see a spot on the street, park there instead, it will only cost you 25-50 cents for your time.

I arrived around 1:30pm and there was a number of people ahead of me. 3 more people and that line would have been out the door. Luckily the line moves fast and the food is brought out to your table after ordering. Prices are good with chili dogs running at a mere $2.40. For my meal, I got the chili dog and fries for $4.22. I sat outside on the patio and waited about 5 minutes for my hot dog to be delivered.

Fries - it was a mix of soggie and crunchy fries. I dont know if they did that on purpose but I liked the crunchy fries better (possibly seasoned). The soggie ones felt too oily. Fries still had the skins on them and cut a bit thicker than shoestring. I think these type of fries would go well with deli sandwiches instead of greasy hot dogs. I guess it doesnt matter because I would order it again.

bun - warm, moist, and good.

chili - chili was wonderful. It wasnt overflowing over the top of the bun and probably could have used a little bit more. The consistency of the chili is somewhat like Hormels chili in a blender with tiny lumps of beef. Dont confuse this chili with Hormels though as its probably some top secret recipe with a much better taste. Thank gawd it didnt get on my shirt or I would have had a perma-chili-stain.

hot dog - vienna beef dog, nice snap to it. Very similar to the dog at QTs Chicago Dog but cheaper. I didnt see how they cooked the hot dog but I would guess its steamed or hot water method. Great tasting dog.

toppings - mustard was just right, not too much but enough to know it was there. Onions were chopped finely and fresh. Chili and onions always a good combination.

Ventura Blvd is a gold mine for hot dogs. If you are near De Soto and have a craving for a great tasting dog that has a snap to it, stop the car and order a dog from The Weinery.
