First stop was La Islitas. It was a relatively short jaunt from work. The biggest problem was trying to beat those blasted red
lights. Seems like every light was against us. Anticipation was high, blood was pumping - excitement was definitely in the muggy air
of the cramped Corolla. We arrived in the parking lot, and with the coordination of men on a mission, the 5 of us exited the clown car
and entered the taqueria. Its like we knew the mission at hand - 2 stand in line, 3 hold a table. We didn't have time to piss around here.
Dominic started up a questionable precedence at La Islitas. The chips and salsa. Would they ruin the testing? Jose bought a Diet
Pepsi. Further discussion. Mike was the pastor of the ascetic way, proclaiming that it would be unacceptable to have anything but water
during the lunch. During this time, we are watching the clock - damn time is going fast - its already been 30 minutes. "We can't keep up
this slow pace." "We need to speed things up." Our big plate of 5 carnitas tacos arrive and we all simultaneously dig in (hardly waiting for Jasons obligatory pictures).

Best bang for the price. Juicy and largest portions of carnitas. Nicely browned and semi-crunchy on the outside, moist on the inside. |

This taco was by far my favorite of the bunch and the clear winner of the competition, as it had a magical combination of flavor, crispy texture, and overall appetizing appearance. The carnitas were both crunchy and tender, and were complimented with a great tasting salsa. It's only real fault was it's hefty price tag. |

This was my first carnitas taco ever and I was wary not to let it affect me overly too much. I found that this was a HUGE taco with so much carnitas. After finishing this one I was getting a little worried that I wouldn't be able to finish the rest of the Carnitas Challenge. |
