On the way to Tres Portrillos, we were all getting pretty nervous. Jason, the driver, began second-guessing directions, feeling pressed for time. "Which way is faster - left or right!!" Silence. "OK, I'm going right!" Tense moments. We pull into Tres Portrillos parking lot quickly and find a spot. Dominic is out of the car before its even in the spot - he's off to run inside and order those tacos. We are feeling the pressures of time at this point. The rest of us take a table out front and discuss how we are going to do this. "Should we only do 3 places?" "Can we call ahead and order at La Bamba, while eating Tapatio in the car?" Seriously, heated discussions. Jason calls a coworker to get the phone numbers for the other 2 places, his cell phone battery running low. You can almost hear the tense orchestra theme blasting out the quickly receding
minutes of our lunchtime.
Dominic decides to wait at the counter inside for the tacos. We couldn't waste precious minutes waiting for the waiter to find our table outside. In a repeat from Islitas, the plate hits the table and tacos are in the hand before Jason can focus his camera. Upon the plate hitting the table, 60 seconds elapse and the last door in the Corolla closes. We peel away from the parking lot, Jason takes the steep driveway hard, a sickening screech heard from the right rear somwhere (probably muffler). For the record, that is where Dominic is sitting. Some heavy tacos indeed!

Purely heartbroken compared to my many other visits. Corn tortillas were smaller than the others but more identical to street vendors in Mexico. Carnitas didn't taste as fresh and had a slight gamey taste to it. Loaded up on pico de gallo and meat wasn't temperature hot like the others. I swear it was an off day. |

A close tie with Location 3, this taco was also disappointing in the two most important categories: taste and texture. It also didn't help that it came directly after the best tasting taco from location 1. The taco was small, but also very cheap, which has its merit. As it performed slightly better than location #3 in the texture department, it gets second to last place. |

Most obvious difference was that it was smaller, cheaper, and less flavorful. Less carnitas in it for sure,A bit tougher meat. For the price, it was adequate, but I would rather pay the extra for the Las Islitas. |
